Credit Analyst

Responsible for analyzing commercial and retail credit requests including new money requests, renewals and annual reviews. Analyzes information used to reach decisions regarding loan approval, loan structure, and loan risk grade. The commercial credit analyst utilizes appropriate authority to facilitate timely responses to client and prospect credit requests that meet Bank’s overall credit policies and profit goals; uses thorough and prudent credit analysis and sound business judgment to structure Bank debt for meeting client needs within regulatory guidelines and bank credit policy.

Underwriting and Risk Management

  • Partners with Relationship Manager(s) and provides guidance on relevant questions to be asked of the prospective client and on financial information to request from the client to underwrite the prospective transaction. 
  • Analyzes financial information that is required for prudent loan approval and risk management practices.
  • Evaluates adequacy of loan structure and makes appropriate loan structuring recommendations. Such recommendations may include, but are not limited to, loan term, loan amortization, and loan covenants.
  • Provides direction and feedback to Loan Operations and Relationship Manager(s) on proper workflow procedures and adherence to Bank credit policy.
  • Performs annual reviews on large credits, watch list credits and other credits as necessary to determine appropriate risk grade and recommend RM actions to repair the credit.

Credit Analysis

  • Analyzes borrower and any related entity financial statements.
  • Analyzes guarantor/personal tax returns and financial statements.
  • Performs complete and accurate cash flow and debt service analysis to include business and global cash flow debt service coverage ratios.
  • Analyzes collateral securing loan request, performing an independent analysis of collateral being offered and whether or not this conforms to Bank guidelines.
  • Presents findings to appropriate loan approval bodies when necessary.
  • Based upon analysis above, Credit Analyst will develop appropriate questions and provide such questions to the RM in an effort to complete a full underwriting.

Credit Request Management

  • As needed assists RM with creation of Credit Request Memo used for credit documentation and approval.
  • Completes Risk Grading of credit requests above certain thresholds to insure accuracy and conformity in the risk grading of the Bank’s loan portfolio.

Other Duties

  • Assists and may participate in both client and prospect business development call preparation at the request of the Relationship Manager.
  • Significant interaction with banking regulators in preparation for and during various exams.
  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in training opportunities / banking schools when appropriate and available.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Three or more years in the financial services industry, ideally in a risk management, credit underwriting, or loan review position.
  • Experience in construction and CRE lending analysis preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Strong financial accounting knowledge/background
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard and specialized computer hardware and software packages such as Microsoft Office. Prior experience with Credit Risk Management spreads and LaserPro lending software are a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Read and understand a variety of reports, spreadsheets, and forms
  • Interact effectively with clients and Bank associates at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task and to work under time constraints.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Prior banking experience may substitute for above.
